HAGA, Japan - A handout photo shows a humanoid robot designed to take on work at construction sites and other risky places unveiled by Bridge builder Kawada Industries Inc. and two partners on Sept. 8. The HRP-3P robot demonstrated its functions at Kawada's plant in the town of Haga in Tochigi Prefecture, walking on an icy surface as well as walking under simulated heavy rainfall. The battery-powered robot, which is 160 centimeters tall and weighs 65 kilograms, carries out remote-controlled and preprogrammed work.

Mitsubishi Estate conducted a comprehensive disaster drill using security robots for foreign residents at several office buildings in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, including the Otemachi Park Building and Marunouchi Building. The robot is the SQ-2, which was jointly developed by the company and Seac Sense (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), and is capable of autonomous driving. "How can I help you? and so on in English. SQ-2 is 1,300 millimeters tall, weighs 65 kilograms, and is equipped with a proprietary three-dimensional laser sensor, artificial intelligence (AI) functions, a high-resolution camera, and a fisheye camera. Mitsubishi Estate said, "We are increasing the number of English-speaking security guards due to the increase in inbound tourism and the holding of the Olympics, but there is a limit. Hitec Seiko (Hanamigawa-ku, Chiba City) has introduced a new type of vacuum heat treatment furnace. The new furnace reduces the processing time to about 10 hours, 30% less than the previous model. By increasing the utilization rate and providing more space in the furnace, the company aims to stabilize the quality. We will increase the sales of the heat treatment business to 270 million yen in the fiscal year ending March 2020, up 12.5% from the previous fiscal year. The company has newly introduced the PQ-65 pressure-cooled horizontal vacuum furnace manufactured by IHI Mechanical Systems (Koto-ku, Tokyo), with a view to entering the aerospace field in the future. The maximum processing capacity of the vacuum furnace is 400 kilograms, which is the same as the conventional furnace, but the processing time can be reduced from 15 hours with the conventional furnace.
